| What the Arizona Tax Credit Program means to you?
The Arizona Tax Credit Program is one of the most powerful means by which parents and community members can bring an infusion of money into their schools and communities. Since we get our money back at tax time, what we are really doing by making a tax credit donation is telling the State of Arizona where to spend our tax dollars. If we want to enrich the Verde Valley and provide additional financial support for our schools, the Arizona Tax Credit Program is the simplest and most effective way to do so. Donors are simply intermediaries who are willing to wait a few months to get their money back. The power in this program is that 1) the donors choose what programs should be supported 2) much of the donated money gets spent locally, infusing money into the local economy 3) the money is returned to the taxpayer at tax time. The Arizona Tax Credit Program allows you a great deal of flexibility in donating. You can donate the maximum or a few dollars. You can donate to one program or many. You can donate to one school or many. You can donate a little every few weeks or submit the maximum in one donation. The business offices at the local schools will keep track of your tax credit donations and provide tax receipts for you. Probably the easiest way to take advantage of the tax credit program is to make the one-time initial donation, then when you receive your tax return, immediately write your check(s) to the school program(s) of your choice. Each year you make the donation, the school(s) have that money to support programs and you get your money back. Consider how much money you could provide to schools in your lifetime, with a net cost to you of zero dollars. If every individual in the Verde Valley who had a tax liability took advantage of the Arizona Tax Credit Program, the schools and the local economy could see an infusion of millions of dollars each year. Yet, that money would be returned to them in tax rebates or by offsetting the amount they had to pay at tax time. Don't miss this opportunity to tell the State of Arizona that you want tax dollars spent here, in the Verde Valley. Summary of the Arizona Tax Credit Guidelines Tax credit donations may be made to support clubs / extracurricular activities that fit the definition of "optional, noncredit, educational, or recreational activities which supplement the education program of the school." Extracurricular activities that are eligible are those school-sponsored activities that require enrolled students to pay a fee in order to participate. Since students at Mingus pay an activity fee at registration, most of our programs and activities qualify. Some examples of appropriate places to provide tax credit support are: costs of band uniforms or equipment, uniforms or equipment for athletic teams, science lab fees, and trips that are solely for competitive events (trips that are recreational or for tourist or amusement activities do not qualify for the tax credit). A character education program that includes six of the following traits also qualifies for the tax credit program: truthfulness, responsibility, compassion, diligence, sincerity, trustworthiness, respect, attentiveness, obedience, orderliness, forgiveness, virtue, fairness, caring, citizenship, and integrity.
