Graduation 2008

It’s time to celebrate Graduation 2008! The M.U.H.S. graduation ceremony is held on the football field and has become an annual community event with graduates’ extended family, friends, and Mingus alumni in attendance. Although the field may seem large enough to accommodate everyone, there is a limit to seating with view of the stage. A plan was developed to address seating issues and ensure that the enthusiasm of one family’s celebration would not infringe on another family’s celebration.

The seating plan was developed in 2006 and refined in 2007. There is limited reserved on-field seating, handicap seating, and open bleacher seating. Each graduate will receive two tickets (mailed April 22) for the reserved on-field seating, which will be included in the graduation packet mailed to the student’s address on file in the school office. A family may opt not to use these tickets and students are encouraged to turn in or trade unused tickets.

The North football gates will open at 5:00 P.M., Friday, May 23, for all admissions to the 2008 graduation ceremony. Open seating in the bleacher area and the reserved on-field area (with ticket) is on a first come, first serve basis, with no saving of seats. Admission to the handicap seating will require that the person present their handicap card/identification and that only one person accompany them. Individuals who require special assistance can be dropped off at the gate and a cart will take them to the seating area. This combination of open and reserved seating allows each family to make an individuals choice on where to enjoy the ceremony without limiting admission to graduation.

The 2008 Mingus High School graduation will be a joyous occasion for participants and their guests. Cooperation with the seating plan will show respect for the graduates, families, and MUHS staff and maintain the dignity of the graduation ceremony.
